White-Faced Scops Owl
About my breed
The northern white-faced owl is a species of owl in the family Strigidae. The southern white-faced owl was formerly included in this species and the two were known as the white-faced scops owl. It is found in a band across Africa between the Sahara and the Equator. In common with other small owls, the White-faced Scops Owl is largely insectivorous, although it will take small birds and small rodents and other mammals.
Voo Voo is around 9 years old but has not always lived at the Sanctuary. Her previous owner looked after her well however, she developed an allergy to feathers and so could no longer care for her. Although diurnal (daytime owl), Voo Voo is quite lazy and is often asleep during the day! She usually accompanies Elmo at Haverthwaite Railway Station but also visits schools and nursing homes.
