About my breed
The Indian eagle-owl, also called the rock eagle-owl or Bengal eagle-owl, is a species of large horned owl restricted to the Indian Subcontinent. They were earlier treated as a subspecies of the Eurasian eagle-owl. They are found in hilly and rocky scrub forests and are usually seen in pairs.
Elmo is approximately 23 years old and was rescued from another Sanctuary. The owner became bankrupt and left the property, leaving behind 160 owls to starve! Only a minority survived, including Elmo. He has been with us for over 10 years and is such a character. He can be grumpy at times but can also be really loving. He is a favourite at Haverthwaite Railway Station and loves watching the train go by!
